Research Focus: Interests include using wearable sensors, kinematics and modeling to understand movement control challenges in autism. With parents and self-advocates input, Dr. Savard aims to develop movement assessments and effective strategies to facilitate motor learning in autism. In addition to promoting participation in active recreation, her long-term research goal is to support control and accuracy of gestures for optimal use of communication supports. Through person-centered and interdisciplinary research, she also hopes to develop communication solutions that take into considerations the unique movement, sensory and cultural characteristics of minimally verbal individuals with autism.
