The ACSF
Many of us use classification scales such as the GMFCS (Gross Motor Function Classification System), MACS (Manual Ability Classification System), or EDACS (Eating and Drinking Ability Classification System). Today I want to talk about the Autism Classification System of Functioning: Social Communication. https://www.canchild.ca/en/resources/254-autism-classification-system-of-functioning-social-communication-acsf-sc
The ACSF was developed by researchers at CanChild and is structured (similarly to the GMFCS) with five levels for “the ability to communicate- with or without words- for the purpose of interacting with others.” Ratings are given for both typical level performance and best level. The guide contains descriptions of a variety of communication methods. The tools is designed to be used with children 2-16 years of age.
I am curious to hear what others think of the scale, and how you may be using it. Please chime in on the discussion!
