In 2017, we started a partnership with other Vermont disability organizations. This partnership is called the Vermont Community of Practice on Cultural and Linguistic Competence in Developmental Disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our goals are to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Develop understanding and commitment to cultural competency in services and policies for people with disabilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify how services and policies do (and do not) help people with disabilities from culturally and linguistically diverse groups.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Specific activities have included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Monthly meetings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leading trainings on racism and ableism.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hosting screenings of the film\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/intelligentlives.org\/\">Intelligent Lives<\/a>\u00a0around the state.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing an organizational assessment using plain language.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sharing what our community of practice partners are doing to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recommending revisions to Vermont Department of Aging and Independent Living (DAIL) to include cultural and linguistic competency in the Vermont System of Care Plan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Providing data and information to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/racialequity.vermont.gov\/\">Vermont Racial Equity Panel<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of this work includes looking at data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>CDCI wrote a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cdci.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/VT_CoP_Data_2019-07.pdf\">report with data on disabilities and disparities (PDF)<\/a>\u00a0using Vermont and national data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CDCI has also done on a Community Needs Assessment in partnership with Vermonters and Vermont organizations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We have also been following racial disparities in COVID-19 cases in Vermont.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who We Are<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Community of Practice includes members from 10 Vermont organizations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.drup2.uvm.edu\/node\/220605\/\">Center on Disability &amp; Community Inclusion<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.disabilityrightsvt.org\/\">Disability Rights Vermont<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gmsavt.org\/\">Green Mountain Self-Advocates<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vermontcarepartners.org\/\">Vermont Care Partners<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vcil.org\/\">Vermont Center for Independent Living<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ddc.vermont.gov\/\">Vermont Developmental Disabilities Council<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ddsd.vermont.gov\/\">Vermont Developmental Disabilities Services Division<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vermontfamilynetwork.org\/\">Vermont Family Network<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, we applied to get help from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nccc.georgetown.edu\/\">Georgetown University\u2019s National Center for Cultural Competence<\/a>. Vermont and 9 other states were chosen to work with the National Center for 5 years (2017-2022).
