Choose readable fonts and large sizes<\/h3>\n        <i class=\"fa-plus fa-regular fa-sharp\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>\n      <\/a>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b51\" class=\"collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading1\">\n      <div class=\"card-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li><strong>Minimum size for body text should be 14 points or larger.\u00a0<\/strong>Ask you audience for feedback.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use easy-to-read fonts.<\/strong>\u00a0These are: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Calibri, or Times new Roman.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No paragraphs of italic text.\u00a0<\/strong>Italic text should be used to emphasize words or short sentences, but can be really difficult to read as a paragraph.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"card\">\n    <div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading2\">\n      <a class=\"collapsed d-flex align-items-center justify-content-between\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b52\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b52\" href=\"#\">\n        <h3>2. Color contrast should be high, and not used solely for meaning.<\/h3>\n        <i class=\"fa-plus fa-regular fa-sharp\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>\n      <\/a>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b52\" class=\"collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading2\">\n      <div class=\"card-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/webaim.org\/resources\/contrastchecker\/\">Use the WebAim color contrast checker.<\/a><\/strong> 3:1 should be the minimum color contrast for large text, icons, and graphics. For smaller text, like body text, bump it up to 4.75:1.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t use color to indicate meaning.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cPush the purple button to get in touch\u201d is meaningless if you can\u2019t see purple.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Test your designs in grayscale.\u00a0<\/strong>Some people can&#8217;t see color at all, and still need your information. If you&#8217;re on a Mac, use the &#8220;Color Filters&#8221; accessibility tool to review, or upload your document to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.toptal.com\/designers\/colorfilter\">Toptal color-blindness simulator<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"card\">\n    <div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading3\">\n      <a class=\"collapsed d-flex align-items-center justify-content-between\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b53\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b53\" href=\"#\">\n        <h3>3. Use headings<\/h3>\n        <i class=\"fa-plus fa-regular fa-sharp\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>\n      <\/a>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b53\" class=\"collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading3\">\n      <div class=\"card-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li><strong>Headings are Title, H1, H2, H3.<\/strong>\u00a0You use these instead of simply making the title of a page, section, or paragraph larger, or bolding it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>They help screen readers and keyboard navigation in scanning a document.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>You can still bold or italicize your headings<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; as long as they also have heading markup (Title, H1, H2, H3, etc).<\/li>\n<li>Headings should also follow in logical numeric order:\n<ul>\n<li>Title of your page should be H1. After that, section headings are H2. Within a section, your main topics are H3. Within a main topic your subtopics are H4.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If you need more than H6, go back and look at how you&#8217;re breaking up your information.<\/li>\n<li>Page and document titles are generally laid out as H1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"card\">\n    <div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading4\">\n      <a class=\"collapsed d-flex align-items-center justify-content-between\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b54\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b54\" href=\"#\">\n        <h3>4. Use alt-text<\/h3>\n        <i class=\"fa-plus fa-regular fa-sharp\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>\n      <\/a>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b54\" class=\"collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading4\">\n      <div class=\"card-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li><strong>All photos, icons, and figures should either have alt-text, or they should be marked decorative.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Alt-text should be 1-3 descriptive sentences.\u00a0<\/strong>Focus on the main point of the image. You don&#8217;t need to describe the color of the flowers on the wallpaper &#8212; unless you&#8217;re creating an ad for wallpaper. You do need to describe how many people are in the image, who they are, and what they&#8217;re doing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If your image shows people, indicate skin, hair and eye color.<\/strong>\u00a0Also consider basic dress and hairstyle.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Haben Girma describes how important it is that alt-text\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/gCcsp7BUsCk\">includes BIPOC people<\/a>\u00a0(video).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Don&#8217;t be afraid to include color terms.<\/strong>\u00a0Many blind and low-vision people appreciate being told about colors, such as &#8220;dark green forests&#8221; or &#8220;woodpecker with vibrant orange wings&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"card\">\n    <div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading5\">\n      <a class=\"collapsed d-flex align-items-center justify-content-between\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b55\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b55\" href=\"#\">\n        <h3>5. Use columns whenever practical<\/h3>\n        <i class=\"fa-plus fa-regular fa-sharp\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>\n      <\/a>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b55\" class=\"collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading5\">\n      <div class=\"card-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li><strong>Try to use columns whenever practical.<\/strong>\u00a0People\u2019s eyes get tired reading a full-width page \u2014 especially on screens. This is why newspapers publish in columns.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do not justify your text to both sides of the page.<\/strong>\u00a0Left-justify any text written in a language that reads left-to-right.<\/li>\n<li>Right-justify text in languages that read right-to-left, such as Hebrew.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"card\">\n    <div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading6\">\n      <a class=\"collapsed d-flex align-items-center justify-content-between\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b56\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b56\" href=\"#\">\n        <h3>6. Use captions<\/h3>\n        <i class=\"fa-plus fa-regular fa-sharp\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>\n      <\/a>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b56\" class=\"collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading6\">\n      <div class=\"card-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li><strong>All videos need captions.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>You should be able to turn captions on and off.<\/li>\n<li>Use the captioning functions of whatever platform you&#8217;re on. For instance, on YouTube, you can upload captions for every video. So you should upload captions for every video. If you use their tool this way, the captions can be accessed by screen readers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Automated captions are only 70% accurate, on average.\u00a0<\/strong>They are still better than nothing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Edited captions are kindness.<\/strong>\u00a0And if you&#8217;re posting a video on YouTube, they&#8217;ll help your search-engine optimization (SEO).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"card\">\n    <div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading7\">\n      <a class=\"collapsed d-flex align-items-center justify-content-between\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b57\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b57\" href=\"#\">\n        <h3>7. All audio needs a transcript<\/h3>\n        <i class=\"fa-plus fa-regular fa-sharp\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>\n      <\/a>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b57\" class=\"collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading7\">\n      <div class=\"card-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li><strong>All podcast episodes need transcripts.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Yes, even short ones.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Automated transcripts are better than nothing.\u00a0<\/strong>But edited transcripts are not only better accessibility, they too will help boost your search-engine optimization. Help people find and access your content!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"card\">\n    <div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading8\">\n      <a class=\"collapsed d-flex align-items-center justify-content-between\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b58\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b58\" href=\"#\">\n        <h3>8. Give people a choice of file format<\/h3>\n        <i class=\"fa-plus fa-regular fa-sharp\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>\n      <\/a>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b58\" class=\"collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading8\">\n      <div class=\"card-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li><strong>Not everyone has Microsoft Word.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Not everyone loves a .pdf.\u00a0<\/strong>And .pdfs are frequently inaccessible unless you spend time ensuring full accessibility.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Webpages should be included as a choice.\u00a0<\/strong>Lots of people have installed browsers, browser settings, and\/or stylesheets that help them with reading and consuming webpages.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Some people like video, some people cannot stand it.\u00a0<\/strong>All video should have a text alternative.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"card\">\n    <div class=\"card-header\" id=\"heading9\">\n      <a class=\"collapsed d-flex align-items-center justify-content-between\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b59\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b59\" href=\"#\">\n        <h3>9. Show your links some love<\/h3>\n        <i class=\"fa-plus fa-regular fa-sharp\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>\n      <\/a>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"accordion-block_16d31c943e4253d58f0b7f2ab64f15b59\" class=\"collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading9\">\n      <div class=\"card-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li><strong>Underline links.\u00a0<\/strong>Don\u2019t underline any other text for emphasis.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Link text should be a different color than body text.<\/strong>\u00a0Try to avoid making other text a random color for emphasis.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t say \u201cclick here\u201d.\u00a0<\/strong>Instead, provide context. Like: 15 Golden Rules for Links.<\/li>\n<li><strong>3-4 words minimum link length.<\/strong>\u00a0This helps people who have limited mobility in their fingers, hands, and wrists have a larger target to aim for.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No surprise downloads.\u00a0<\/strong>All links are assumed to go to webpages unless you say otherwise. That&#8217;s more than 70 million people in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Here in Vermont, more than 129,000 adults reported having at least one disability.<\/p>\n<p>In Vermont, the most common disability type was cognition: 13% of adults in Vermont reported having a cognitive disability. The next most common disability type was mobility. And 9% of adults in Vermont reported having a mobility issue.<\/p>\n\n                    <ul class=\"stats row\">\n                        <li>\n              <span class=\"highlight\">67% <\/span>              of all accessibility issues are due to choices made by designers and creators.
